In an interview with the free Dutch magazine Gay&Night, 26-year-old Mika finally responds to the rumors about his sexual preference. 'Just call me bisexual' says the British pop singer.

Ever since Mika started getting noticed in the beginning of 2007, topping the charts with his hit song Grace Kelly, there was speculation about his sexual preference. In a 2007 interview with Gay&Night, the first magazine to put Mika on its cover in The Netherlands, he wouldn't confirm or deny anything, stating: "I don't think it's relevant, at least not at this stage. I think it's really helpful to separate the 'person' from the 'artist'."

'Just call me bisexual'
But now, over 2-and-a-half years later, Mika once again graces the cover of Gay&Night magazine, to promote the release of his sophomore album The Boy Who Knew Too Much. In the accompanying interview Mika finally addresses the rumors about his sexuality, for the first time ever: "I've never ever labeled myself. But having said that; I've never limited my life, I've never limited who I sleep with. So, whatever. (…) Call me whatever you want. Call me bisexual, if you need a term for me."

Role model
When asked if he doesn't think he'd make a good role model for closeted teenagers, he offers an interesting answer: "There are ways of being a role model without having to always having to establish yourself with a label. Let's say if you're a 16-year-old guy, and you're not sure about your sexuality, you should be as free as you want." according to the singer.

"Having a role model who makes you feel like it's alright to do whatever you want, without the pressure of a label, I think that's a good thing as well. I think there's a million different ways to do it, there isn't only one. And I hope I'm right."

Gay&Night
The full interview is published, in Dutch as well as English, in the new issue of Gay&Night, which will be made available this week at virtually all gay businesses in The Netherlands.
