UN resolution battle
The U.N. General Assembly split over the issue of gay rights on Thursday after a European-drafted statement calling for decriminalization of homosexuality prompted an Arab-backed one opposing it.

Diplomats said a joint statement initiated by France and the Netherlands gathered 66 signatures in the 192-nation assembly after it was read out by Argentina at a plenary session. A rival statement, read out by Syria, gathered some 60.
The two statements remained open for further signatures, the diplomats said. No resolution was drafted on the issue and there was no voting, they added.
The division in the General Assembly reflected conflicting laws in the world at large. According to sponsors of the Franco-Dutch text, homosexuality is illegal in 77 countries, seven of which punish it by death.
EU vs Muslim countries
The European Union-backed document, nothing that the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was marked this month, said those rights applied equally to all people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
It urged states "to take all the necessary measures, in particular legislative or administrative, to ensure that sexual orientation or gender identity may under no circumstances be the basis for criminal penalties, in particular executions, arrests or detention."
But the opposing document said the statement "delves into matters which fall essentially within the domestic jurisdiction of states" and could lead to "the social normalization, and possibly the legitimization, of many deplorable acts including pedophilia."
"We note with concern the attempts to create 'new rights' or 'new standards,' by misinterpreting the Universal Declaration and international treaties to include such notions that were never articulated nor agreed by the general membership," it added.
This, it said, could "seriously jeopardize the entire international human rights framework."
Muslim countries have for years opposed international attempts to legalize homosexuality.
U.S. officials said the United States had not signed either document. They said the broad framing of the language in the statement supporting decriminalization created conflicts with U.S. law, but gave no further details.
But Dutch Foreign Minister Maxime Verhagen told reporters it was a "very special day at the U.N."
"For the first time in history a large group of member states speak out in the General Assembly against discrimination based on sexual orientation," he said. "With today's statement, this is no longer a taboo within the U.N."
Syrian Ambassador Bashar Ja'afari told reporters sponsors of the statement had "cornered" other members by springing the declaration on them.

this will be a long fight, a very long one I might say. but I’m really happy to see things are actually going to happen. if this fight will continue, there will be a vote, and if our lobby wins, there will be a decision. afterwards all does countries that still punish homosexuality, will continue to do the same thing, and all will come done to a cold war, and media lobby. homosexuality will be the world’s next women scarf issue in the Muslim world.

does anyone understand this message? he seem to be very angry but the question is whom is to blame? he uses the word/concept LIFESTYLE to describe a sexual reality? may I ask why do you use this word? watt are you afraid of? you believe those countries will disappear along with the Vatican, and all that valuable hate and crime committed in the name of their imaginary friend won’t exist anymore? let me comfort you. they will not change, and won’t disappear, they will be forced to acknowledge that the world does not stop in the middle ages, and maybe, I say MAYBE stop the slaughter!
they will not change, the will still live the LIFESTYLE of an ignorant/childe, talking to an imaginary friend, choosing to hide from reality, believing that their imaginary powerful friend will destroy their imaginary enemy. we don’t chose our nature, the basis of our existence, and for that matter the basis of all life on earth, so using the word LIFESTYLE is just as ignorant as believing that religion is anything ells but an imaginary world, a LIFESTYLE to use the same wording, a choice to ignore the reality, to transcend rationality in favour of delirium.
201 years ago the biggest openers of the termination of slavery where the religious-clerical lobbies all over the world, hundreds of documents exist that prove the same. they use to think and still many believe the same, that slavery is an acceptable LIFESTYLE.
but you are right on one issue, if it were possible, if I could do it, if does of us could do it who wish for it, I would erase the very existence of all clerical power, and just to ease your understanding, I don’t mean, religion as a belief/myth(everyone has the right to delude them self with words or drugs), I mean those who believe that their belief is a must to save our SOULS from watt they describe as LIFESTYLE. my nature, body, sexuality, love, family, life is not a LIFSTYLE, it’s not a choice, only a fool would deny the obvious, and that fool deserves watts coming to him. I won’t shed a tear.
