Obama has chosen some gay transition mates

At least seven GLB's have been appointed to president elect Obama’s transition team.

These are the seven confirmed gay or lesbian members of Obama’s transition team, made up of 300 people. These people often go on to serve as middle and upper level members of the federal government.

The chosen ones

Three of them are known from their work with the Clinton administration:

- Businessman Fred P. Hochberg
- Former San Francisco Supervisor Roberta Achtenberg
- Labor attorney Elaine Kaplan

Another three of them have a lower-profile political background.

- Rick Stamberger, CEO of an online news agency
- Brad Kiley, member of a Washington think-tank
- Thomas Soto, cofounder of a “clean technology” Californian investment fund

Protest

The last one, Michael Guest, is a US diplomat and former ambassador to Romania, who caused a stir up in 2007 after resigning from his post as protest to the lack of rights same-sex diplomatic spouses face within the US Department of State.

Gay-friendly

It was also rumored that Steve Hildebrand, Obama’s highest ranking gay campaign member, could be nominated to succeed Howard Dean as chair of the Democratic National Convention after the latter’s term expires.

And for the important posts of Attorney General and Secretary of State, two gay-friendly figures are poised to take the posts: Eric Holder and Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.
