Prop 8 Mormon Backer fired from theatre

The anger of gay rights activists against proposition 8 takes a new form. The Mormon Creative Director of a theater in Sacramento California has been forced to quit his job after it was discovered that he had donated 000 to ending gay marriage.

This was discovered because of a US regulation that registers all political donations.

Scott Eckern's donation was discovered by gay rights campaigners from the Good As You (GAY) organization.

"Never work with you again"

The outrage was varied and severe. People in the commonly gay theater industry could not understand the "betrayal" from a their colleague, and people like the writer of the musical "Hairspray" wrote angry letters with lines like this one:

"The thought that your donation came from the salary you earned through profits made by a show that I wrote upsets me so much that I shall never allow for any of my plays to be performed in your theater.

The pressure because unsustainable and Eckern quit.

Eckern expressed regret at being distanced from his job because of his personal beliefs, and while his Mormon church backs his move, some people do not agree with his quitting.

Protests against the gay marriage ban in California have been raging for the last week and half, not only in California, but in many parts of the US, including New York and Ohio.
